FAQ

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR, WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?  Good walking boots with ankle support, and sensible clothing (including waterproofs). Avoid denim as it is very poor in wet or cold weather. Also please bring something to eat and drink ,carried in a small rucksack with first aid/medication and other essentials. Some of our members use walking poles to ease the pressure off joints and aid balance in rough terrain. Also we do advise you enter your ICE details on your mobile- in case of emergency.
Winter: gloves and hat are essential and warm layers such as fleece
Summer: carry extra water and sun cream, and a brimmed hat is useful

HOW DO I FIND THE START POINT? The programme details the postcode and grid reference for the start point. If you do not have a satnav, enter the details using Googlemaps or Streetmap ( see links section) to locate. Please arrive early.

DO I NEED TO BOOK? On most walks this is not needed, however certain activities marked with a B require pre-booking. If you are new to the group please make yourself known to the walk leader.

DO I NEED TO BE A MEMBER TO GO ON A WALK?  We welcome potential members to sample our walks, but you will be expected to join by your third walk.

HOW HARD ARE THE WALKS? We rely on our members to put on the kind of walks they enjoy, these are generally between 6 and 9 miles. We do run shorter evening and Saturday walks in summer.

WHERE ARE YOUR MEMBERS FROM? The adjoining parts of four counties: Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Staffordhire. So essentially South Derbyshire, N.W. Leics, Charnwood; Rushcliffe, Erewash and East Staffs. You will soon get to know members local to you and hopefully share lifts.

AWAY WEEKENDS OR HOLIDAYS?  Members regularly get together for these. It's no fun on your own and single supplements are punitive, so just ask.

WHERE DO YOU WALK? Anywhere within a reasonable distance of our traditional Ashby de la Zouch base. Several members meet up centrally and share transport there.

WHO LEADS THE WALKS? We have a fantastic team of walk leaders who search out the hidden gems of our countryside as well as hospitable tea rooms and pubs for enjoying an "apres walk"session.

CAN I BRING CHILDREN? No, our walks are not suitable for children.

CAN I BRING MY DOG? Unfortunately not on normal Sunday walks as these are not suitable. Dogs may be brought on other walks, but they must be well behaved and kept on a lead.

PLEASE do contact us if you have any other queries about the group.
